PART 1: The Purposeful Investor

Your Worth And Power of the Collective

Warns of the implications of microplastic pollution in Antarctica, which not only highlights environmental challenges but also potential impacts on global ecological systems and regulatory policies.

British Antarctic Survey reports discovery of microplastics in Antarctic snow near Union Glacier, Schanz Glacier and the South Pole—using a sensitive method detecting particles down to ~11 µm—and found concentrations of 73–3,099 particles per litre with most particles <50 µm; polyamide dominated near field camps (suggesting local sources such as clothing, ropes and camp materials), and the study highlights potential impacts on snow albedo, melt rates and the food web (penguins, seals, krill) and calls for sustained monitoring and policy action (e.g., the Global Plastics Treaty). This evidence of pervasive human impact in one of the planet’s most remote regions directly supports Part 1: Our Agency and Global Urgency and the chapter “Your Worth And Power of the Collective” by illustrating why individual behaviours, local practices and coordinated collective and policy responses are crucial to address global environmental harm.
